Profile

Dads And Disabilities Support was set up by Andy Aldred, designed to offer support for parents and carers that are looking after children with special needs and disabilities on a day-to-day basis.

While originally the charity was set up as a support network for male relatives and carers, D.A.D's quickly realised that all sectors of society needed support and more awareness was necessary.

The charity provides free training courses, an advice and support centre as well as various organised trips and events to help build awareness and include more families that have children with disabilities.

Their trips, events and courses are open to the entire community, helping build awareness to make a difference.

D.A.D's also have a number of other services available to offer, such as house clearances, house removals, commercial and domestic cleaning, landscape gardening and mobile valeting.

Their charity shop sells a variety of household goods and toiletries, as well as an extensive range of garden furniture.

A free play area and sensory room are also located on-site and available to use by any visitors. Snacks are available from the Inclusion Snack Bar.

While immediate advice and support is available, D.A.D's also looks to help support other members through any tough times they may be experiencing.

D.A.D's hopes to bring everyone together in the effort to make a difference for the next generation, to stop the discrimination and isolation that families currently experience.

Their key aims include:

- Providing workshops, forums, advocacy and general support

- Raising public awareness of the issues and challenges facing disabled children and their families

- Providing recreational facilities and opportunities for disabled children

- Providing education and information support for families to help disabled children meet their potential

By trying to meet all of these key aims, Dads and Disabilities Support want to stop the discrimination of disabilities, helping promote the social inclusion of children with disabilities.
